After a week of dry weather, the rain is overdue! Along with the rain, also comes much warmer air. Thanksgiving Day we barely made it into the 40s and now we’ll be into the low 60s, which is right around average for this time of the year! We actually warmed up throughout the overnight instead of dropping, called a temperature inversion, so we’re starting off in the 40s and 50s with highs in the 60s this afternoon.

The rain will be lighter through the mid morning hours and then become more widespread into the afternoon. We could be dealing with some heavy downpours. In NW Virginia, the cold air is lasting longer so they’re seeing a wintry mix and under a Winter Weather Advisory. All of the precipitation in our viewing area will fall as rain.

This system is moving rather quickly and I think we will see widespread rain before lunchtime and the heaviest of the downpours will be in the mid afternoon. Some of these could reduce visibility on the roadways. Total from this system for rainfall is anywhere between 0.5-1 inch.

Have a great Saturday! Meteorologist Casey Lehecka
