The steady rain started just before the evening commute. The rain will continue overnight into early Friday morning. For the most part, the rain has been light, but we have seen a few moderate downpours from time to time.
Overnight, we’ll be tracking rain along with a few embedded thunderstorms. Don’t be surprised if you wake up to a rumble of thunder or flash of lightning. There is a chance some storms could be strong to severe.
IF we see anymore strong storms develop, the primary threats will be heavy downpours that could lead to localized flooding, strong wind gusts, and maybe an isolated tornado. (There was a tornado warning issued for Mainland Dare Co earlier.)
We could see thunderstorms through 5 AM.
Friday will be another soggy day. We won’t see steady rain from start to finish, but there will be on and off showers. 48-hour rainfall totals could add up between 1/2″ to 1″ to maybe 1 1/2″.
In addition to the rain, the wind will pick up quite a bit. Winds will be out of the south tomorrow, ushering in that mild air – highs top out in the mid-60s. The wind will switch out of the west on Saturday, and it’ll remain rather breezy. At least the weekend will be nice and dry! That’s great news if you’re traveling or if you have family coming to town. Although if the family is looking for a white Christmas….they’re not going to find it here..
