Over the last 2 days we had more scattered rain showers. It added to the overall rain totals.
Norfolk has had 5.39″ of rain for the month so far. That is 3.30″ above the monthly rainfall average so far. The sun did pop out for a while yesterday afternoon. We also had some sun and clouds this morning. meanwhile a cool front was slowly sinking south along the Eastern Shore.
We are on the warm and muggy side of the front right now. Is it too soon to be tired of the humidity? Temps and dew points were in the 70s to start the day with a light southwest wind. Through the day the wind will turn to out of the northeast as the front settles south. We’ll have some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the region as the front stalls out.
For now it looks like the higher rain chances will be closer to the state line and in northeast North Carolina. High temps will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. By tomorrow the front will lift back north as a warm front. The models vary as to how fast the front lifts north. I think it will move at a fair clip. So for now I only have isolated showers/storms in the afternoon. Some models do have it moving slower. So they put in a bunch of showers and storms in the area. Future Trak went back and forth on Tuesday’s coverage. Now it is back to more isolated-scattered. (About 20-30% coverage).
Either way we will warm up. High temps will return to the mid-upper 80s with a southwest breeze. Skies will be partly cloudy.
A second/stronger cold front will move into the region late Wednesday. . We’ll have a higher chance for rain and storms ahead of the front. Highs will be in the mid 80s. This next front should drop farther south which will be nice. That should allow for some drying out for Thursday and Friday. We’ll have partly cloudy skies both days. Highs will be in the 80s mostly. Then by Saturday we may see some isolated showers, but a low chance. Highs will be in the 80s. However, by Sunday the rain chances start increasing again as the moisture increases. This is still a ways out. So check back for updates. I’ll have more on the Memorial Day weekend forecast coming up in tomorrow’s weather blog. Stay tuned.
