Blog: Summer sun holds, first tropical system this season develops

As the summer sun heats us up this week, the tropics also heat up to kick off the 2024 season. Fortunately, we’ve got nothing but that sweet summer sunshine all week long… enjoy it, because the heat really cranks up by the weekend.

Only expect minor variations in our weather between today and Thursday… plenty of sunshine, highs in the mid 80s at least, and a nice warm breeze. No rain is expected as long as high pressure is in control this week, our next possible chance comes with a few showers or t-storms later Sunday, but even then those chances are slim.

By Friday, highs should be at 90° and into the low 90s for a few spots, the humidity will slowly be climbing as well.

Saturday and Sunday prove to be our first big round of heat this season… high temperatures should be in the mid and upper 90s for the weekend. Heat index values will likely be 100°+ for most locations… be prepared!

TROPICS:
Our first tropical cyclone of the season will be developing today… we’ll see Tropical Storm Alberto in the Gulf of Mexico eventually bring tropical rains to northern Mexico and southern Texas by Wednesday and Thursday.

An additional weak disturbance will approach the southeastern U.S. coastline over the next few days, but is running out of time to see further tropical development. This moisture will stay to our south and just throw some showers to the Florida coast. Look out for some fun waves locally during the incoming morning high tide later this week!

The Gulf of Mexico will also be a hot spot in the next 10 days or so… we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another potential tropical system down that way later next week.

Welcome, 2024 hurricane season! For now, let’s sit back and enjoy our beautiful summer weather and take this time to prepare for whatever Mother Nature could throw our way this season.
