As expected we had some strong storms yesterday evening.

We timed them out pretty well in the forecast.  There were numerous warnings inland.  Then they weakened a bit as they moved into Hampton Roads.  There were a couple of trees knocked down due to the strong winds in Surry and Sussex counties.

There was a wind-shift that focused the line of storms, but the actual cold front did not move in.  Instead it is slowly sinking into the area today.

This should cool us down a tad compared to yesterday.  It should also lower the humidity.  IF…it does move through.  Right now signs are that it is slowing down.  It’s possible that it could stall over our region.  Normally, I would say that would kick off some isolated showers or thunderstorms, but I think we’ve dried out too much in the mid-levels to do that.  High temps will be near 80 today with low-mid 80s inland.  It will be in the upper 70s near the shore.  Winds should turn out of the northeast at 5-10mph, but again…that depends on the front.

Either way, tomorrow the wind will pick up out of the southwest, and the front will soar north as a warm front.  This will raise the local temperatures to near 90 degrees.  The record for tomorrow is 93 degrees (1889). We’ll have partly cloudy skies.  I won’t rule out a stray shower or storm in the afternoon with all of the heat and humidity.  By mother’s day we’ll have a little more clouds.  Plus, some isolated showers are possible during the day.  It’s a low chance for now (20%), but stay tuned for possible changes.

At this time it looks like we’ll have very Summery weather next week.  Each day will have a mix of sun and clouds.  We’ll have some scattered showers and storms at times.  There won’t be any washouts, but we could get the rain at just about any time of the day or night.  There may be some weak boundaries around helping to cause them.  Highs will be well into the 80s, and it will be humid.  So much for Spring this year.  I think we had a total of 2 weeks of Springy weather.  On the upside…water temperatures are rising through the 60s now.  Also, the pollen should be tapering off over the next week.

  Have a great weekend!
