It’s about time! We have been cold (relatively speaking) for a long stretch of time. We only hit 60 degrees or higher 1 time in March. The last time we were 65 degrees or above was on February 26th when we hit 67 degrees. So it’s my pleasure to announce that our forecast high today is 69 degrees. Our region will be in the upper 60s to low 70s depending on location. Some places near the shore will be cooler. Remember…the water temperatures are in the 40s over the Bay and 40s and 50s over the ocean. If the breeze isn’t strong enough, then a sea breeze may try to form this afternoon.
We have a warm front moving through the region right now.
There is a cold front from the Appalachian mountains back down to the southwest, but this is stalling out. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds today with a stray shower by the evening. Tomorrow we’ll have partly cloudy skies and a stronger southwest breeze. So high temps should be able to rise to the upper 70s to near 80.
We’ll still be warm on Friday with highs in the mid 70s. However, there will be some rain moving in along with that cold front. It won’t be a washout, but some scattered showers will be in the region. We’ll cool down for the weekend. Highs will be in the low 60s. There may be a stray shower later in the day on Sunday, but I think we’ll be good for the morning Easter egg hunts and services. We’ll have updates.
In national news… I found a recent technical report from NOAA about sea level rise across the country. It cites Norfolk on several occasions. Here is the report: NOAA high tide flooding. Not sure if it considers land subsidence here, but it talks about many different sites as well.
