As I write this, the COVID-19 death toll is over 86,000 and much of our region is only cautiously emerging from lock down. Especially now, the thought of an approaching hurricane is unfathomable. But that possibility must be faced with the knowledge needed to protect yourself, your family, and your home.
I’ve always been concerned about people needlessly evacuating from a survivable hurricane. Now and through the hurricane season, evacuation will probably be even less of a viable solution.
School shelters, hotels, sheltering with inland relatives all pose difficulties with whatever social distancing measures that will still be followed.
With all that in mind, it is imperative that you be prepared to shelter at home. We hope that this information proves useful in preparing for the 2020 hurricane season.
