WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Thousands of residents across the Peninsula lost power Sunday night after strong storms blew through the area, downing trees and blocking roadways.
As of Sunday night, the City of Williamsburg said more than 2,500 customers were without power throughout the city due to Sunday’s storm. The city also reported that trees fell in several areas.
As of Monday morning, just over 100 Dominion customers were without power in Williamsburg, with about 500 out in York County and around 100 out in James City County.
Williamsburg residents are asked to report downed trees and blocked roadways to the city’s Public Works Department at 757-220-6140.
James City County also reported several trees down. Some of the reported downed trees are located at:
- Fords Colony, Edinburg at Tayside
- ⁃Greensprings Rd at General Gookin near Fernbrook
- 1150 block of the Colonial Parkway
- 100 block of Sherwood Dr.
JCC is asking residents who have lost power to report and check outages in the area by calling 866-366-4357 or going to Dominion Energy’s website.
Bruton High in York County will be closed on Monday due to the power outage at the school.
Emergency and VDOT crews are currently working to clear the roadways.
There was also a report of damage at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, where WAVY viewer Jennifer Nicole said the storm came on “very fast.” She said that in addition to strong winds, it also hailed.
Nicole’s photos show trees down near the Scotland train station, and possible damage to part of the park’s Skyride cable car system.
WAVY has reached out to the park for comment but has yet to hear back.
