Over the last 48 hours, we have had a stationary front drift around the region. This will basically continue on for the next 48 hours. Yesterday this front (and the high humidity) created some heavy downpours during the afternoon and evening. Elizabeth City had over 2″ of rain. There was a wind damage report from Chowan county with some trees down. Today that boundary is slowly nudging back north.
Conditions weren’t too bad this morning, but the heat and humidity will push back into the region. High temperatures will rise to the low 90s this afternoon with some mid 90s inland. The heat index will be in the mid-upper 90s. We’ll have partly cloudy skies for a while. Then the clouds will build up a bit through the afternoon. We’ll have scattered showers and storms firing up during the afternoon as well. We could easily have some more heavy downpours in the region. An isolated severe thunderstorm is even possible. Gusty winds would be the main threat.
An area of low pressure will move through tonight causing more showers and storms. This should drop the front back south a bit tomorrow. So high temps will be in the mid 80s. We’ll have more clouds overall. Plus, we’ll see more scattered showers and storms developing in the region. By Saturday the front will make a stronger push north as a warm front. High temps will rise to the low 90s. The heat index will be near 100. We’ll have partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. We’ll have less rain on Sunday, but some strong heating. High temps will be in the low-mid 90s. The heat index will be over 100. A nice cold front will drop-in on Monday. High temps will get knocked down to the low 80s. We’ll be cooler and drier (hopefully) by early next week. Let’s just hope the front doesn’t stall out like it did recently.
In U.S. weather news…. There has been a lot of flooding across various parts of the country lately. Over the last couple of days parts of Texas have had some pretty bad flooding. Some of these areas were affected by hurricane Harvey last year. Also, yesterday we had some dangerous flooding over parts of western Pennsylvania. Some cars and trees were swept away in the high waters. Pennsylvania Flooding.
