Thousands lose power in Hampton Roads during overnight storm

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Thousands of Dominion Energy customers lost power after a strong storm blew through Hampton Roads late Thursday, bringing rain, wind and lots of lightning to the region.

Dominion reported 5,403 customers without power as of midnight. By 10 a.m. Friday, there were 200 customers in southeastern Virginia still waiting for their power to be restored.


According to dispatchers, some localities reported damage as well, including:

WAVY Chief Meteorologist Don Slater said the storm was a small, short-lived storm, but it brought a lot of thunder and lightning.
