DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Officials in Dare County are asking for input for the name a new bridge being built across the Oregon Inlet.
The bridge would replace the old Bonner Bridge, which is more than 50 years-old.
Anyone looking to weigh in or submit a recommendation has until Jan. 31 to do so. County officials are asking that submissions include an explanation for why the naming is warranted.
The Dare County Board of Commissioners is considering submitting a request to the North Carolina department of Transportation for naming of the new bridge.
Officials said in December the project was delayed due to weather, meaning the opening of the new bridge would likely happen in late February or early March — as opposed to January.
