NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man is facing more than three decades in prison for RICO conspiracy and multiple attempted murders on behalf of the Nine Trey Gangsters, a Bloods street gang.
The U.S. Attorneys Office said in a news release 23-year-old Malek Lassiter was sentenced to 35 in prison on Tuesday.
The release cited court records that said Lassiter joined other gang members on a mission to kill high-ranking members of a rival “line” of the Nine Trey Gangsters.
This mission was ordered by Antonio Simmons, who was faced with two mandatory life terms after he was convicted in March 2018 in connection to a violent 2015 crime spree.

Lassiter and the other men were unable to find the first two peopl they planned to kill, and went to a Portsmouth house looking for another gang member they planned to shoot.
A woman who opened the door said the man they were looking for was not home. One of Lassiter’s co-conspirators shot her six times.
The group also fired their guns again as they fled when they saw witnesses in the neighborhood looking out their windows.
