NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Super Doppler 10 Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler was at the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News on Friday for the annual Groundhog Day ceremony – but Chesapeake Chuck needed a helper this year.
The museum’s resident groundhog, Chesapeake Chuck, has been helping predict the weather since 2011, but Chuck decided to get a little help from Orion the deer for the 2024 ceremony so he could get a bit of rest.
Orion didn’t just predict the weather though, he also got to predict who will win this year’s Super Bowl!
“Hear ye hear ye! On this day, February 2nd, 2024, Orion the deer has stepped in for Chesapeake Chuck to become the prognosticator of prognosticators, the seer of seers, and so, a bright sun I see before me and with my shadow underneath, six more weeks of winter it shall be, and Kansas City for the win!”
The ceremony started at 11:30 a.m. at the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News at the outdoor amphitheater. The event was open to the public and was included in Museum admission.
