NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — In times good or bad, Granby Comets come together.
Michelle Mobley, no relation, lost her grandson on Rugby Street July 3 after he was shot just steps from his great-grandmother’s home.
“This is where he was murdered on the street right here,” Michelle Mobley said. “And this is still some of his blood that is in the street right here. … And there was a woman who came and comforted him as he took his last breath. I would like to thank that woman, wherever she is. I just want to thank her for staying out with him.”
That evening, Michelle Mobley stood outside the crime scene tape, not knowing her first-born grandson, whom loved ones called Man-Man, was dead from three gunshot wounds to the head.
Both his grandmother and great-grandmother said he was not involved in activities that would have put his life in danger.
The family said Robinson was standing just around the corner from his great-grandmother’s home when a white vehicle, containing at least two men, pulled up. Off-camera, his sister said the crime was caught on surveillance video.
“My brother put his hand through the window, like two seconds into the video,” his sister said. “You just hear shots fired.”
The heartache does not end there.
Thursday night, eight days later, Michelle Mobley’s 37-year-old daughter, Shirley, died from cancer.
“I want to thank all of those that came by and paid their condolences,” Michelle Mobley said. “I’m going to miss my daughter, but I thank God for giving me those 37 years of being with her in her presence.”
Two other men were shot that night. Police have not provided any information on their status.
Michelle Mobley’s family has established a GoFundMe to help them pay for two funerals.
