NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two men arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Wawa store clerk are expected in court Tuesday morning.

Norfolk Police said 38-year-old Helena Stiglets was shot during a robbery at the store on East Little Creek Road around 11p.m. on Sunday, May 26. Stiglets was sitting in her car when she was shot.

She died at the hospital from her injuries.

Police charged 20-year-old Andre Brinkley and 21-year-old Shonquial E. Hamlin second-degree murder, robbery, carjacking, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Both men are being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.

WAWA released a statement Monday evening regarding Stiglets’ death:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at our Norfolk store…

…We remain focused on providing law enforcement with any assistance they need and on supporting our associates in any way we can.”

Candice McDaniel, who lives near the Wawa said she is struggling to explain the deadly shooting to her two teenagers.

“It’s just so heartbreaking,” McDaniel said. “That woman was working, going about her business like we all do everyday. To lose her life so senselessly, it’s just so tragic.”

10 On Your Side found there have been 13 calls for service for assaults and two others for robbery — including the May 26 incident — within the last year.
