Man to serve 1 year in prison for accessory in Va. Beach murder

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was charged in connection to a mid-February murder in Virginia Beach is now facing one year in prison.

Henry Alexander Smith III pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact Dec. 18, and was sentenced to five years in prison with four suspended — leaving one year to serve.


Smith was charged in February following the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jayln Harris, who was found inside a vehicle in the 700 block of 16th Street.

The man charged with killing Harris, Andre’Jeru Bernard Bigby, was caught in California nearly four months later by federal authorities.
